How We SupportWe listen, we believe
Rape Abuse Support, (R.A.S.) is there when a survivor of sexual violence seeks support. We offer a variety of support which is led by the individuals’ needs and particular circumstance. The support is provided by trained paid and unpaid support workers, in a safe environment which offers the individual the space and time to talk about their experience without being judged. Initial contact can be made via the helpline, email or letter. Survivors can then choose, along with the support worker, which form of support best suits their personal circumstances e.g. telephone or face to face support. Advocacy is available to survivors who require support to report the incident to police, this support can continue throughout the legal process if required. Support staff can also accompany survivors when they attend health appointments if required. R.A.S. can provide the individual with information on the law, health and any other issue relating to sexual violence. This information may then enable the survivor to make an informed decision about her way forward. In addition, a survivor will be offered information, “signposting,” to any other organisation which may be able to offer support appropriate to the individuals’ particular needs. At R.A.S., we aim to offer a service which is led by the needs of women who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives. A service which supports women throughout the healing process, and enables women to become true survivors! |
